How does howmanyplay get its player counts?

We poll the official Steam Web API and Twitch Helix API on a tiered schedule. Top games refresh every 5 minutes, the long tail less often. We never estimate.

Why is Fortnite or Roblox shown without a player count?

Epic Games, Riot Games, Roblox Corporation, and a few other publishers do not expose a public concurrent-player API. Those games carry a NO PUBLIC API badge on howmanyplay because we refuse to fake numbers we cannot verify.

How often does the homepage update?

Top games refresh every 5 minutes. Mid-tier games every 15 minutes. The category and trending lists rebuild on every page load against the latest data.

Is howmanyplay free to use?

Yes. The site is free and does not require an account. We do not sell user data.
